Folks,
Tonight I find myself in Nevada City, California - once the leading gold mining city in the US - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nevada_City,_California
Earlier today I drove across the immense barren wasteland of the salt flats - made famous by Bonneville and Rattlesnake Speedway (immortalized by Springsteen in "Promised Land').
"On a rattlesnake speedway in the Utah Desert
I pick up my money and head back into town" (and go to Wal-Mart)

Tomorrow is a big day as I will be working with Sean Duggan - he of Photoshop fame.
I guess I could and should use tinyurl for these links - I'll get my act together soon ...
More importantly though, when you are tracking you have to think like your prey so I have started to eat NutriSystem. Once you start in on this stuff you quickly realize why it is so popular.
First of all some one has done all the hard work for you - somebody grew the veggies, raised the animals, harvested both, cooked both, prepackaged both - the only thing they didn't do was eat it - you still have to do that! .... well so far ....
Secondly in cooking it they have chosen the recipe, dirtied the dishes, washed the dishes, handled the waste, put everything away and cleaned the kitchen. Wow!!
You don't have to do anything and you don't have to think - somebody else has done all that for you - and they're probably from Mexico. All you have to do is eat it and in doing so under nourish yourself to the point where you lose weight.
I tell you if this isn't a metaphor for whats wrong with North America right now, I can't think of a better one.
Catch the animated movie Wall-E and check out the second half - that is where we are headed - and that's why it is so darn good. If you have not seen it, please do.
Maybe, just maybe, it's time for everyone to slow down and get back to the basics and instead of buying bottles, cans and boxes at your favorite box store, visit the fresh produce section and meat/fish counter of your favorite small market/butcher/purveyor and make a mess - and along the way enjoy the taste of real food and in the process re-discover the sheer joy of getting back to the basics and 'starting from scratch'.
To quote Hunter S. Thompson again,
"The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over".
That's it - gotta run and microwave this frozen TV dinner ....
Phil
